Malaria is a mosquito-carried illness that affects both humans and animals. This disease can lead to coma or death. This makes malaria treatment in Sub Saharan Africa an urgent necessity. Also affected by this disease are people in Asia and the Americas, but most cases are found in sub Saharan Africa.

This ailment happens when Plasmodium parasites multiply rapidly within the red blood cells. This causes symptoms such as fever, headache, joint pain, and anemia, nausea, and fainting among others. Classic symptoms can be characterized with a feeling of sudden coldness and chills, followed by rigor, fever, and sweating. Vomiting and convulsions are also common signs that you have been infected.

In the African countries, about 3,000 children die of this infection each year. The disease also becomes resistant to old drugs which require pharmaceutical companies to keep creating stronger medicines to fight the illness. People who have sickle cell disease, G6PD, and a few other diseases are naturally resistant to Malaria and will not be affected by any insect bites.

This leaves majority of the population vulnerable to this illness and its deadly symptoms. Of the millions of children worldwide that get the disease, only 2% will survive. Those who do overcome the illness are often left damaged. Many acquire epilepsy and spasticity. A big majority lose appetite and are left listless.

Preventive methods are implemented in areas where mosquitoes are common. Some of these preventive techniques include mosquito eradication, taking prophylactic drugs, and preventing insect bites. If eradication of the mosquito specie that carries the disease is successful, the people in the area will no longer suffer or die from it.

In the meantime, malaria treatment in Sub Saharan Africa, Asia and in the Americas is necessary to prevent fatalities. Medicines to cure this disease are often distributed by the local governments, medical charities and by private companies. The latest medicines developed are more effective that the old medicines. Sometimes a combination of medications is also needed to fight this dangerous illness.
